A collection of two photographs, a RAAF Cap Badge and a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) hat badge.
1. This photograph is of a group of soldiers and included in the collection was a hand written note with the following - Cooper to the left, George Stein, The tall man in the middle (Arthur Gegg); the man to the right is Bill Apps, Yarra, 3 at the bottom are Lindsay Channell in the middle and the other two are from Araluen.
On checking a database for WW1 the only name which was found was George Ernest Stein, Regimental Number 7081 who was a Roman Catholic farmer whose address was Montague Street, Goulburn, N.S.W. He was aged 36 at embarkation and his next of kin was his sister, T.J. Murphy, Union Street, Goulburn, New South Wales. He enlisted in the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces 11 August 1916, Rank on Enlistment - Private. His unit was 13th Battalion, 23rd Reinforcement and they embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A72 Beltana on 25 November 1916.
George's Rank from the Nominal Roll was private and his Unit from the Nominal Roll was 1st Pioneer Battalion, and he returned to Australia 12 June 1919.
It features soldiers from the Australian Light Horse, likely from the early 20th century. They are wearing characteristic slouch hats with the brim upturned on one side and bandoliers across their chests.
2. Photograph of William Painter, photographer Midget Co., High Art Photographers. 694½ George Street and at 54 Queen Victoria Markets.
3. R.A.A.F Sergeant shoulder board featuring gold embroidery and a metal badge, designed to be worn on the uniform. Featuring a gold metal crown and eagle insignia on a dark blue background. It includes three chevrons for the rank of Sergeant. The word 'Australia' is embroidered at the base of the board.
4. Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) hat badge, featuring a crown above the initials 'RAAF' surrounded by a laurel wreath. The badge is made of gilt metal or anodized brass, and often comes with pins or lugs for attachment.
