About this objectA black photo album, containing numerous photos and paper records following the life of Leading Steward Donald David McLean.
He was born 12 June, 1920 in Crookwell, N.S.W and enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy on 7 March, 1939. Donald's Home Port/Port Division was Sydney, N.S.W. and his next of kin was Zena. He was discharged 28 March 1951, Posting at Discharge HMAS Penguin. He was a prisoner of war in Fukuoka, Japan and arrived back in Australia in 1945. Donald was Assistant Steward onboard H.M.A.S. Perth from 9 April, 1940 until 4 September 1940 and a Steward on H.M.A.S. Perth from 5 September 1940 until 1 March 1942. On his War Record it states he was a 'P.O.W. 1.3.42 arrived Australia 45.'
He is remembered on The Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial in Ballarat, Victoria.
