About this objectPhoto album of photographs and postcards related to the service of George Thomas Owens. It includes many family photos, postcards of places he was stationed while overseas during WW1, and many others, including family members and his home. He has also written 'I've been to all the places in this book!'
George Thomas OWEN, Regimental Number 1289 was born in Granville, NSW. His religion was Church of England and his occupation was Furnaceman. George enlisted in the Australian Commonwealth Military Forces 18 July 1915, he was married, aged 34 and his next of kin was his wife Mrs Elizabeth Maude Owen, 32 Union Street, Wickham, Newcastle, NSW.
His rank on enlistment was Private and his unit 30th Battalion, Headquarters and he embarked from Sydney, NSW on board HMAT A72 Beltana on 9 November 1915.
His Rank from nominal roll was Lance Sergeant and his unit from nominal roll was 14th Field Ambulance. George was Mentioned in Despatches – Awarded and promulgated, London Gazette, second Supplement, No. 29890, (2 January 1917); Commonwealth Gazette No. 103 (29 June 1917). Recommendation date 12 October 1916. He returned to Australia 28 February 1919.
