Name/TitleAIF Female Relatives' Badge
About this objectThe Australian Imperial Force (AIF) Female Relatives' Badge was issued to the closest family member of an active serviceman during World War I. The front states it was "Issued by the Department of Defence - To Women of Australia for Duty Done"
These badges would have typically been given to the soldier's mother or wife and demonstrated the "duty done" by their family. This badge lists a serial number of 29426, which records who and where it was sent.
If more than one family member served, the loops at the bottom would hold metal panels that listed the serviceman's regimental number.
